OYS Youth Basketball Program

OYS Youth Basketball Program

OYS is excited to offer basketball to our community's youth. Please remember the following things when attending basketball games.

Referees

We have High School aged referees who will be working to call the game. Their instructions are to help teach the game, keep players safe, and help them understand it. At young ages, there is almost always something that could be "called." Our goal is to keep gameplay going as much as possible. They will call fouls, out-of-bounds, and dribbling violations. Early on, referees will look to teach more than they call. The referees are young but able.

Their decisions are final. OYS WILL NOT TOLERATE VERBAL ABUSE, INTIMIDATION, OR THREATS.

If any of these things are heard, you will be asked to leave the gym immediately and banned from coming to future games. Encourage your players, encourage your team, and do not say anything to the referees. The gyms that we play at are very compact, and voices will carry and perhaps be louder than intended.

Recreation

This is a recreational level league, many players are playing for the first time. Help make it fun for everyone. This is also a league in which grades are combined to form teams. 1st-2nd grade, 3rd-4th grade, 5th-6th grade. Sometimes, there are skill gaps, size gaps, and coordination gaps. That is ok. In this league, you could possibly win by 20 and lose by 20, all within one week.

Crossroads Church Gym

The Crossroads Gym is located at 636 Lexington Springmill Rd. You will enter through the front doors, and the gym will be on the right. Concessions will be available at this location. Please do not allow teams to "warm up" or dribble in the church lobby. Teams will have limited time to warm up on the court but should not use the lobby as an alternative.

Shoes

Please ensure players do not wear their basketball shoes outside on wet/snowy/muddy days. Drying the floors in time for the games to start won't be easy.

Game Times

Games are very tightly scheduled and will be very congested with many people at the end/beginning of games. We are excited to play a lot of basketball in the next couple of weeks! Have fun, stay safe, and be respectful; this season will be great.
